Jacob De Wet

Depicts Diana, the Roman goddess of hunting and chastity, bathing in a forest surrounded by nymphs and dogs being gazed upon by the hunter Actaeon in mid transformation into a deer as punishment for viewing the nude goddess. De Wet's works are predominantly biblical and mythology based with his later works placing greater emphasis on landscape backgrounds. His pupils include Paulus Potter and his son Jacob De Wet the younger.
Oil on canvas,21 1/2" x 26".
Signed "De Wet" lower left.
