Description
The clock with case centered by a circular dial in white enamel and indexes in Roman numerals, surmounted by a ceramic group rendered in lively polychromy probably depicting Francis I of France on horseback rearing above a pack of dogs while attacking prey; rocaille front feet on which a musical putto rests with his head surrounded by vine leaves. The foil vases are characterized on the front by a combat scene taken from the "Chanson de Roland", opposed to military panoplies; two handles modeled respectively as male and female caryatids, the latter captured in the act of playing a cornucopia; the bases richly modeled with scrolls bear the figure of a tritone playing a conch, the clock: cm. 71x48x19; the vases: h. cm. 64x30 (some defects)
