GPAnalysis: A 3.0 sold for $204 in 6/22.Rat Men vs Surrender Monkeys: Mirror monster gropes gal on this mag's Kamenesque cover. The stories in this wild mag deliver a dime's worth of insanity and then some. Craziest of the bunch is "The Rat Men of Paris," in which man-sized rats wearing striped shirts and berets plan their all-out assault on mankind.
"[Strange Mysteries] needed a few issues to warm up. While the stories in the first three installments are 'OK', there's nothing to recommend in particular. SM #4 does contain a notable tale, 'The Rat Men of Paris,' wherein a race of rat-men, living in the sewers with their despotic queen, plot to take over the human world. While the Rat Men are foiled 'this time,' the story ends with a frequently used Pre-Code Horror device: a foiled but not vanquished Rat Man addresses the reader directly, warning him that '...the day of the rats will come! You'll see – !' Oooh! I'm scared!" – George Suarez, Tales Too Terrible To Tell #6. NEC: 1992, p. 36.______________________________________________________________
