Description

Title: 1950s Shopping Basket Counter Display

Size: 12 3/8” long x 8 ¼” wide x 6” tall.

Description:A fun, colorful and nostalgic child’s toy from the 1950’s. It shows national brands like Jell-o, Kleenex, Dreft, and Skippy Peanut butter. It might have been a counter display.

A fiber board construction is covered in a printed paper cover. There are metal corners at one end, red painted metal corners on the opposite end, and four metal fasteners holding on the base.

There is a bell-shaped trademark for THE GONG BELL MFG. CO. MADE IN U.S.A. at the front edge of the inside bottom of the basket. The city of origin reads EAST HAMPTON CONN.

MEASUREMENTS

12 3/8” long x 8 ¼” wide x 6” tall. Weighs 1 lb 14.8 oz (875 g)

CONDITION

The basket is missing its metal handle legs. Most of the printing is intact except for a large area on the end with the pineapple and Bolster chocolate. There are also a couple of bites out of the paper along the bottom. The bottom rear corner is peeling.

A great piece of nostalgia. I love the child’s stuffed toy riding in the basket.
