Description
Contis, Helen P. (Greek/American/Pittsburgh, d.2004), Village, acrylic on canvas board, January 6, 1995. Depicting a hillside village with brightly colored foliage. Signed and dated at lower center. Dated verso. Board 17.5 x 24 inches, matted and in a gold tone frame 26 x 32 inches. American self-taught artist Helen Contis began painting after her husband, self-taught artist Peter Contis, had passed. One of his paintings sat unfinished in their home, and she felt compelled to complete it. She went on to create many other pieces. Since her work has been exhibited at the Carnegie Museum of Art, and is part of many private collections in the US.
Condition
