Britain.- Sandby (Paul) The Virtuosi's Museum; containing Select Views in England, Scotland, and Ireland, engraved title and 79 plates only (of 108, lacking plate 4 and all after 80), most after Sandby, also lacking all text, with a duplicate of plate 67 and an additional engraving of Addescombe Place by W.Angus (dated 1810), foxing, contemporary roan-backed boards, rubbed and spotted, joints repaired, G.Kearsly, 1778 [but later] § Angus (William) The Seats of the Nobility and Gentry in Great Britain and Wales..., engraved title, half-title, 52 engraved views only (of 63, lacking 28, 38, 46, 50, 55 & 58-63) by Angus after Sandby, Turner, Nattes & others, each with explanatory leaf of text (including those to plates 28, 38 & 46), plates with light marginal foxing and a little offset onto facing text, bookplate of Charles J.B.Trappes, contemporary half morocco, spine gilt, g.e., rubbed, [Millard, Britain 7], W.Angus, [1787-1804], oblong 4to (2)*** Some of the views in the first were previously published in Kearsly's Copper Plate Magazine of 1778.The second item, Angus's Seats, was intended as a continuation of Watts's Seats... and was originally published in parts containing a total of 48 plates from 1787-97, at which point the half-title was issued. A second volume was planned but only 15 plates were completed by 1815. The work is important for depicting mainly lesser-known houses. It also includes a view of Oxenford Castle after Robert Adam (plate 14), and Bradwell Lodge by Malton with figures by Rowlandson (plate 35).
