Description
An antique Russian parcel-gilt silver icon of the Mandylon, in Eastern Orthodoxy it is also known as Acheiropoieton or icon not made by hand. The face of Christ is realistically hand painted upon a cloth background, the edges of the silver frame are inscribed in Russian: Blessings to Baron Modest Modestovich Korf 15 April, 1868. Marked on the lower edge with an Imperial Warrant, Cyrillic assay initials P.M. under the date 1868, makers initials IS for Ignatii Sazikov, 84 silver standard, crossed anchors for St. Petersburg, and other Russian hallmarks.
