Item Details
Description
A South Staffordshire enamel patch box, early 19th century
Painted with HMS Victory, within a laurel wreath, tied with a blue ribbon inscribed 'British Gratitude to Nelsons Valour', a pair of doves perched on palm fronds, a raised dot and gilt border on the deep blue ground, the lid fitted with a mirror to the interior, 5.3cm wide
Condition
The cover is in good condition, save for a minute loss to the enamel at the very left side in the photo near the mount and the loss of one enamel dot in the border. There are a few typical fine scratches and some wear to the fine gilt border. There are cracks and losses associated with these cracks, revealing some of the copper underneath, particularly to the left side of the base but notably no restoration. The mirror is cracked.
