Item Details
Description
A South Staffordshire enamel patch box, early 19th century
Finely printed and hand-coloured with a half-length portrait of Nelson, a banner inscribed 'Nelson & Victory' unfurled above a naval engagement, a polished steel mirror to the interior, the base coloured pink, 5.3cm wide
Condition
The exterior of the pink base has been restored but there is no corresponding restoration to the interior or any damage save for a few fine and typical cracks visible to the interior. Whilst the hand-coloured print on the cover appears to be generally in good order, a thin, clear lacquer has been applied to the lid, which makes it difficult detect to extent of possible restoration underneath. There appears to be a small area to the top of Nelson's right shoulder near the edge of the lid. The hinged lid closes flush.
