Six creamware dessert plates from the 'Baltic Set Dinner Service', circa 1802
Enamelled with a border of oak leaves and acorns reserving panels inscribed 'Nelson', above blue ribbons inscribed 'the Glorious 1st of August' and 'the San Josef', each cavetto titled 'Aboukir' and '14th Feby', the centres with a fouled anchor, 'Nelson, 2nd April, Baltic', enclosed by a laurel wreath, 20.8cm diam (6)

The 'Baltic Set Dinner Service', as listed in the circa 1813 Trickey Inventory, included 41 dessert plates, as well as many other plates for soup, dinner and cheese. Although Lady Hamilton owned a separate porcelain dessert service of the Baltic Set pattern, dessert plates were also a standard component of any large dinner set. These creamware dessert plates will have been used alongside the sauce tureens that could also be used for sugar and cream.
