Description
. Jackal mummy sarcophagus in clay plant material.Ancient Egypt, Ptolemaic period (5th-4th centuries BC). . Cm 31,00. The terracotta head represents the god Anubis and is cleverly tied to the rest of the body by a fine fiber ribbon. The front of the sarcophagus has an hourglass-shaped cavity that originally included a seal. According to some scholars, the seal may have been made of ivory or turtle carapace, and it is fascinating to note that today's cavity shows bamboo plates used for the internal structure of the vessel. X-rays show several bones inside, plus we notice an incredible pouch whose contents we do not know.
