Description
acrylic paint on canvas 50 x 70 x 2 title: Obscurus An abstract painting made with free brushstrokes, intuitively coloured and spaced. The artists intention was to explore the potentials of the processes and tools of painting, particularly the use of the dry flogger and the difference between transparent/opaque, matt and gloss mediums. What emerges is a study in the concealing properties of paint, its ability to hide past events while subtly revealing others. The word "Obscurus" has more recently aquired magical associations of supressed energy which adds to its possible interpretations. Dr Pen Dalton spent many years as a researcher, writer, critic and lecturer in contemporary arts . She is primarily interested in relations of difference: differences in gender and genre, race and colour, class and categories expressed in digital and analogue work. Her artworks are held in various national collections: eg ArtUk, [The National Art Collection] The Victoria and Albert Museum Print collection, Musee d'Affiches in Paris, the Komechack Art Gallery, Chicago and she is currently being interviewed for inclusion in the GB National Archive. London, England
