1955 still life oil on board by Alvina Sabanas (1914-2008). Signed by artist. Measures approx. 18 1/4" x 14 3/4" OA; 13 1/4" x 9 3/4" SS. Alvina Sabanas-Wells, M.D. was born in Riga, Latvia. She graduated from medical school in Kaunas, Lithuania, University of Vytautas the Great and went on to serve an orthopedic and trauma fellowship in Vienna, Austria during WWII. After moving to Chicago in 1947, she served another internship at Jackson Park Hospital and a fellowship at the Mayo Clinic and earned a Masters Degree in Orthopedics Surgery at the University of Minnesota. In Chicago, she was an Associate in Orthopedic Surgery at Northwestern University and Assistant Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at Rush Medical School. She is a Mayo Clinic Alumni Laureate and member of the Doctors Mayo Society. Artwork has not been removed from frame for inspection.
