Description
A lovely ceramic table lamp by Jane and Gordon Martz, featuring a cylindrical form with variegated brown drip glaze. Signed "Martz" near the base, c. 1950's. Husband and wife team Jane and Gordon Martz began designing and making lamps for Marshall Studios (the company owned by Jane's parents) around 1951. Their Bauhaus-inspired designs - sleek, modern, and versatile with over two dozen glaze colors and finishes - became an instant success among Mid-Century decorators. The Martz No. 101 lamp was featured in MoMA's 1953 Good Design Exhibit and resides in the museum's permanent collection to this day. Dimensions: H 9.5" x W 5". Condition: Wiring untested. Small scratches.
