Portsmouth, New Hampshire Maple Gaines-Type Armchair. The double-peaked crest rail ending in volutes above molded arches centering open-carved leaves, the ridged arms ending in molded scrolls with raised volutes, above a vase-form splat, the rush seat raised on vase-and-block turned legs ending in Spanish feet, joined by a frontal stretcher with ball-and-disk turnings, and plain side and rear stretchers. H: 43.5 in., W: 23.875 in., D: 19.5 in. Seat width : 21.875 in. Provenance: The Dingman Collection, Hampton, New Hampshire.
