English Painted Pine Noah's Ark with Animals and Birds, Late Nineteenth Century. The hinged lid boldly painted with red waves and black stripes on an orange ground, and with a blue and white dove perched on the roof holding an olive branch in its beak, above a frieze of colored stripes, each end of the ark with a transom window over a pair of doors on one end and windows on the other, all on a blue field with white quoins around the doors and at the corners, containing one horse, three mules, two pairs of cattle and two cows, three goats, pair of sheep, two pairs of pigs and a piglet, pair of cats, two pairs of dogs and a single dog, two pairs of stags and does, pair of wolves, pair of foxes, pair of hyenas, two pairs of lions, pair of leopards, pair of dromedary camels, one giraffe, one elephant, pair of birds and two single birds; and eight small animals comprising three horses, a pair of cats, pair of rabbits and a single rabbit.
