Description
Wrought-Iron and Brass Betty Lamp, Peter Derr (Tulpehocken Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania 1793-1868), Dated 1850. The shaped brass reservoir fitted with a single-wick iron channel, hinged cover with brass knob, the wrought-iron handle mounted with a hanging spike and wick pick on a chain, stamped "P.D. 1850" on the inside of the handle. H: 6.125 in., W: 3.375 in., D: 3.875 in. Literature: A similar lamp, dated 1855, is illustrated in James F. Spears, "A Picture Story of the House of Derr," p. 159, pl. 88.
