Description
New Hampshire Fan-Back Windsor, in Black Paint. The arched crest rail continuing to notched circular ears, above seven spindles within bulbous and tapered stiles, the plank seat raised on vase-form and turned tapered legs joined by a bulbous H-form stretcher, affixed under the seat with a partial label printed "THIS CHAIR/ Was made by Mr. John Whittle...1784, in the old township of.../ (now the City of Nashua), his.../occupying the site of what was made/ famous Indian Head Coffee House, now/ being arranged for a Catholic Parochial/ School. Mr. Whittle's eldest son was the/ first white male child born in Dunstable/ north of the Nashua River./ Presented to Mrs. Aaron King by a/ surviving grandson, May 1885.," and signed "Edward G. Fyler" in black ink. H: 35.25 in., W: 24.25 in., D: 19.5 in.
