Description
Europe, France, 19th century. A portfolio of 59 plates from Henri Roux Aine and Louis Merot du Barre's "Herculanum et Pompei; Recueil General des Peintures, Bronzes, Mosaiques, etc. [Pompeii and Herculaneum]" ca. 1870, an archaeological publication that illustrated and described works of art and architecture discovered in the vicinity of the devastated cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum. The majority of the prints were executed by Langlume; three were executed by Delaporte; and two by Roissy. All are housed in a lovely black portfolio case. Size (sheets): ~ 13.75" L x 10.25" W (34.9 cm x 26 cm)

Condition
Plates present with varying degrees of toning, foxing, and small nicks/tears to peripheries commensurate with age. Some sheets have been slightly trimmed. Vivid imagery. Portfolio is very nice save minor surface wear.
