Description
Spanish Colonial, Mexico, ca. 19th century CE. A lovely tin retablo painted with the image of 3 saints praying over baby Jesus. At the center is a nun, perhaps Saint Teresa of Avila or Sainte Gertrude the Great, with Saint Longinus holding his spear to her left and a female saint dressed in white, perhaps Saint Lucy to her right. The nude infant lays before them, while a candelabra hangs above. Size of retablo: 9.4" W x 12.9" H (23.9 cm x 32.8 cm); with frame: 11.7" W x 15.1" H (29.7 cm x 38.4 cm)

Provenance: private Oglesby, Illinois, USA collection, acquired in the 1990s from various Western US auction galleries

Condition
Some small areas of pigment loss and scratches with light bending to tin. Otherwise, intact and excellent with a deep patina. Set in a modern wooden frame with slight tear to gallery paper on verso. Suspension wire on verso for easy display.
