Description
Offered here for your consideration is an antique Apache figural and whirling log basket. This large basket is fashioned with checkered, deer, and whirling log designs done in tan and black. An appealing brown rim finishes this basket off nicely. The Apache people were known as superior basket makers after learning new techniques from the Yavapai during the late 1800s which they quickly adopted and adapted. Apache baskets are striking with strong contrast in color and bold geometric or pictorial (less common) motif. Being on a three rod foundation makes the baskets tight, stiff, and sturdy with no bend to them, and yields rounded well-defined coils that stand out. They use materials native to their region such as willow and devil's claw. These baskets are highly sought after and getting harder to find. Consider this one for your collection now!Â
