American Sterling Silver Sweetmeat Basket, J.E. Caldwell & Co., Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Late Nineteenth-Early Twentieth Century. The sides cast and pierced with oval grapevine panels, each centered by 'Cupid' drawing his arrow, joined by concentric circular loops affixed with leaves, the base with a matching medallion within a pierced border of ellipses, the swing handle cast with grapes and leaves, engraved with the initials "MCG" in script, raised on ball feet, marked "J.E. CALDWELL & CO.," "STERLING" and pattern "2302." 17.63 troy oz. H: 2.625 in. (handle down), W: 9 in., D: 6.625 in. H: 6.25 in. (handle up) Provenance: Property from the Collection of Cortlandt and Nancy Knowles Parker, Greenvale Farm Estate and Vineyard, Portsmouth, Rhode Island.
