Description
Whaling ship toy by Maltete et Parent, France sold by Ray Holland 1987. Zinc hull labeled "Baleine" on bow and stern. Upper structure conforms to the style of early whaling ships with a front harpoon/cannon, as well as numerous large life preserver rings. Maletete as well as Radiguet made kits for custom builds. We suspect this is the case, and the toy made for a whaling ship; early 20th century build. Deck hand painted with aging and hand applied decking. Masts, pennants, and riggings have considerable age. Sailors have retention loops to hook in at their base. Windup works properly by accessing the hidden shaft inside a smoke stack, then releasing the brake lever. Length approx 32". -See the 1987 ad for the ship in photo 12.
