Description
A minimalist figurative screenprint in colors on Arches paper titled "Ada and Alex" by American artist Alex Katz. Hand signed in graphite pencil with an annotation of 25/75 on the bottom left. Published in 1984. This dual portrait is a self-portrait of Alex Katz and his wife, Ada. There is a realness yet also a dream-like quality to his portraits. Katz makes a statement by positioning Ada in the foreground while he is peaking behind her, portraying Ada as commanding and powerful. Alex & Ada married in 1958 and she appeared in over 1000 of Katz's paintings including "Black Dress" (1960). Katz has a distinctive vision which makes his artwork recognizable to the viewer. The overall aesthetic of his portraiture is simple and easy. Identified as part of the New Realism art movement, there is simplicity in the line and color which is captivating and timeless. An opportunity to own an artwork by one of the most collected postwar artists. From a private collection. Dimensions: 40.25"h x 34.25"w x 1.5"d (framed). In excellent vintage condition. Alex Katz (1927- ) is an American figurative artist known for his paintings, sculptures, and prints.
