Description
A modern minimalist abstract painting on paper by American artist Robert C Ellis. Signed and dated 1958 on the bottom right. Created during Ellis' artistic period where he became interested in luminosity and painted compositions with a stain glass effect. The cool blue lines are illuminated by the background composed of orange and yellow tones. There is a glowing effect in this painting which makes it visually impactful. Ellis (1923-1979) lived intermittently with the Tarahumara Indians of Mexico's Sierra Madre in the 1950s which served as profound inspiration to the artist. This painting was created during that time. His first solo exhibition was at Gump's Gallery in San Francisco California in 1942 and from there is work was exhibited in Washington D.C., Tucson Arizona, Santa Fe NM, Albuquerque NM, Linsborg KS, Amarillo TX, The Panhandle Museum in Carson County TX, The Ellen Noel Art Museum of the Permain Basin, Odessa TX, and at the Harwood Museum of Art in Taos. He exhibited internationally in several galleried in Mexico, as well as at the Museo Nacional de Arte Moderno in Mexico City in 1964. From a private collection. Dimensions: 30.75"h x 23"w x 1"d (framed). In exceptionally good vintage condition.
