Item Details
Description
A collectable presentation of Handwoven Collection designed by Massimo Vignelli for Knoll, 1967. Swatch cards and samples presented in a red orange cardboard box with "Knoll" in large white letters with "Knoll Textiles Handwoven Collection" along the top. In box are 8 boards with cut-out small circle textile samples: Arno, Harrow, Heather, Inca, Cato (2), Ebro, and Morrocco (4 of the 8 are bifold design) with seven 8.25"h x 8.25"w samples in an inner box labeled "Handwoven samples." Also included is a small brochure about the collection (Photographs by Robert Cadwallader, Printed in Switzerland by Conzett and Huber through Chanticleer Press). Original letter from Knoll from D.H. South (Textile Administrator). "The Knoll approach to materiality begins with one of the most ubiquitous symbols of interior design: the fabric swatch. Florence Knoll invented it. Other companies offered swatches, but Florence-who was trained as an architect-knew the importance of understanding materials. Shortly after she and Hans established Knoll Textiles in 1947, Knoll became the first company to mount squares of fabric to identification cards packed with information interior designers need while working on projects. Our evolutionary and revolutionary use of materials started with Florence and continues today." - Knoll. Dimensions: 9"h x 8.75"w x 4"d (box dimensions). Provenance: From the personal collection of designer Ralph Rye - a multi-talented visionary with a career in city planning, architecture, interior design, lighting, and furniture design. Rye has collaborated with some of the finest furniture companies in America including Dunbar, Nessen, Thonet, Jens Risom, and Baker.
