Discover the coastline of Cape Blanco in Patagonia, Argentina, through this antique map created by English pirate G. Anson in 1756. This map provides a glimpse of Anson's squadron, including his flagship, the Centurion, during the early portion of his journey. Notably, this area was not under Spanish control at the time. Part of Anson's renowned work, "A Voyage Round the World" this map offers one of the greatest firsthand accounts of around-the-world voyages, adventure, and piracy from the age of exploration. Published in London, this edition provides valuable insights into Anson's daring mission to attack Spanish territories and loot treasure galleons in western South America. Anson's mission was fraught with risks and difficulties, resulting in the loss of more than two-thirds of his crew and three of his eight ships. However, his determination led to success, capturing the larger and better-armed Spanish treasure galleon, Nuestra Señora de Cobadonga, off Cape Espiritu Santo, Samar Island, Philippines in 1743. Anson's remarkable achievements earned him a promotion to the British crown's Lord and established him as one of the top English commanders during the Seven Years' War. This copperplate engraved map, measuring approximately 20 3/4" x 11", is in excellent condition. Its authenticity is guaranteed, offering a valuable historical artifact.
