Description
A Russian Soviet Fedoskino lidded black lacquered wooden box. The hinged lid is adorned with a hand painted scene from a Russian Fairy Tale, The Tale of Tsar Saltan, which Alexander Pushkin wrote in 1831. It depicts a famous scene from the fairy tale with Tsar Saltan and a squirrel gnawing golden nuts. Inscribed by the artist and dated 1979 on the side. Marked Fedoskino 1979. The box was created for the 1980 Moscow Olympics. A red interior. Fedoskino miniature is a folk craft, a type of Russian lacquer miniature painting with oil paints on papier mache, which developed at the end of the 18th century in the village of Fedoskino near Moscow.
