Description
An early 19th century antique Russian silver tea or coffee service by Adolf Sper, St.Petersburg. The service consists of four pieces including a coffee pot, a tea pot, a sugar bowl and a creamer. All four pieces have an original gilded interior. Coffee and tea pots have carved horn handles. All pieces are of a lobed form. The upper lip border on all pieces has floral hand chased decoration. Each piece hallmarked with crossed anchors for St. Petersburg, an 84 silver standard, 1832, features assayers mark A.K, and makers mark A. Sper. Note: The master Adolf Sper was born in Finland in 1799 and came to study in St. Petersburg in 1816, became an apprentice, then in 1829 - a master, had his own workshop and many students. The masters works are presented in state museums of Russia, including the Moscow Kremlin Museums and the State Historical Museum.
