Description
A group of mementos associated with Raquel Welch's Broadway musical Woman of the Year. Included are the following: two different Playbills from the production; a photograph of Welch performing a musical number with the chorus that's matted in a silver-tone frame; a photograph of Welch in a white dress standing on stage beneath a lighted "Woman of the Year" sign; a full page advertisement from Variety dated October 27, 1982 that reads "Congratulations, Raquel. You made B'way history! $325,810 All Time Box Office Record At The Palace Theatre" above a black and white photograph of Welch; and a square-shaped curved glass memento that's etched with the words "Woman of the Year / 12/1/81."
Welch made her Broadway debut in Woman of the Year as a temporary replacement for the show's leading lady Lauren Bacall when she left for a two weeks vacation in Deember 1981. She proved to be such a hit with both critics and audiences that she was invited to take over the role full-time when Bacall departed the show the following year.
