Edinburgh - A set of six 18th century silver dessert spoons with a later addition, mark of Robert Wilson, 1798, 'Hanoverian' style with dog nose, monogrammed, together with a single addition, mark of John Zeigler, 1813, 226.6g (7.3ozt) gross (7) Robert Wilson (1766-1824) started his career in Newcastle between 1794 and 1795, where he registered his first maker's mark. He then moved to Scotland and his maker's mark was seen in Edinburgh, as with this example, between 1798 and 1800. At the turn of the century, Robert and his family emigrated to New York where he continued to work as a registered silversmith from 1803 up until 1810, when he moved to Philadelphia. He died in 1824.
