Description
A MAHOGANY STOOL, PROBABLY IRISH, CIRCA 1750, the over stuffed seat raised on four cabriole legs each carved to the shoulder with a scallop shell and bell flower and with guilloche and feather decoration, terminating on hairy lion's paw feet, originally fitted with castors, the upholstery later.
40 cm high x 75cm wide x 75cm deep
Provenance: From a collection of furniture and antiques left to the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings (SPAB ) in 1939 by Evelyn Stannus of Kensington. Items in the collection are believed to have come from Ireland. Since 1939 many objects from the collection have been on loan to the National Trust and this item has been displayed at Montacute House.
