Design by Ikko Tanaka. 82 p. with numerous black and white illustrations after photographs by Eikoh Hosoe printed in gravure. 44 x 29 cm. First edition of 1000. Parr and Badger. The Photobook vol. 1. pp. 284-85. The Open Book. pp. 248 -249. Text in Japanese and English. Hosoe created Kamaitachi, a series of images that reference stories of a supernatural being — a "sickle-toothed weasel" — that haunted the Japanese countryside of Hosoe's childhood. In the photographs, his model Hijikata is seen as a wandering ghost mirroring the stark landscape and confronting farmers and children. – In excellent condition.
