Marshalltown, Nova Scotia. The Covered Bridge with blue loops for shadowing is almost certainly the second half of 1965. Mixed media on artist board. Covered Bridge in Winter is one of Lewis' most successful serial images. This striking work, featuring two horses in Winter pulling a sleigh towards a covered bridge, appeared on a commemorative Canadian postage stamp in 2020 marking the 50th anniversary of her death. This image has become an icon of Lewis, and her works. Signed, "Maud Lewis", recto, lower right. Board: 12" x 16". Acquired directly from Maud Lewis by the late Marjorie Hill and her daughter and current owner, Susan Loucks.
