A most unusual sterling plaque with a scene from a copy of a painting by George Catlin depicting Native Americans being tortured. Tiffany, Young and Ellis, made by JCM (John C. Moore) silversmith in the 1840s and 50s for the New York Library to be used by museums only. Marked "Tiffany, Ellis and Young" JCM and with the title "By Courtesy of New York Public Library for Museum Use Only". Size: 10" x 8". Condition: very good. Note: One identical to this one was sold at Christie's NY January 23, 2009 for +$2,000.0
