Large original black and white woodblock print on paper by Japanese Modern Master printmaker and wood cutter Un'ichi Hiratsuka. Horyu-ji Temple in Early Autumn, Nara, depicts a view of the oldest temple in the world with its Asuka-style pagoda. He explains: I sketched it before various repairs were made. The trees in the foreground are in a decorative style in order to make the tower stand out. Exhibited in the 2001 Modern Master show at the Art Museum of Chicago and illustrated in the exhibition catalogue, page 71. Red seal on lower right side.
