Ca. 300 - 100 BC.
A rare well-preserved iron single-edged machaira (also makhaira or sica). The blade is comprised of a thick spine and a sharpened blade edge with a pointed tip. Incised on one blade is a set of parallel lines that terminate just before a trio of annular rings. Included with the machaira is a conical chape of the scrabbad bearing hammer-molded bars on one side above a hemispherical bottom tip with radiating linear patterns along the topside. This piece is accompanied by a historical report from Alessandro Neri, an international Cultural Heritage expert based in Florence, Italy.
