Item Details
Description
Ca. AD 100.
A fine Roman hollow red terracotta statuette depicting an infant child portrayed squatting over a storage vessel. The infant is portrayed mischievously stirring the vessel with what appears to be a phallus. The vessel possibly contained a form of porridge. The facial details have been lost, and the body retains anatomical features that have been created in a naturalistic manner, with much attention given towards the details, such as the folds of the garment the figure is wearing. For similar see: MET Museum Accession Number: 89.2.2002.
Size: 165mm x 85mm; Weight: 460g
Provenance: Private UK collection; from an old British collection formed in the 1990s. This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
