1800s German Pewter Plate Schiller Meets Schubart
Mid 19th century pewter plate from Germany. The plate is hand-engraved and depicts Friedrich Schiller meeting the political prisoner Christian Friedrich Daniel Schubart. Schubart was imprisoned for his criticism of Duke Carl Eugen of Wurttemburg and political writings. He was imprisoned in the Hohenasperg fortress, and was visited by Schiller, another famous writer of the time.
