Description
Two hardbound volumes: Annual Report of the Director of the Mint for the fiscal year 1912 & 1913. Published at the Washington Government Printing Office, 317 & 335 pages. The historical significance of these volumes lay in the reduction in gold coinage as a result of the act authorizing the issue of gold certificates against gold bullion. The rarity of U.S. gold coins dated 1911 (especially at the Denver Mint) can be attributed to these reports. The government opted to produce fewer gold coins, and issue gold certificates instead.
