Gilt lettering on the front cover. Inside are two single page broadsheets listing the laws pertaining to the two mining districts. Both are copied from the originals. Signed inside front cover by Nolle Mumey, stamped number 80. 1) Gregory District. July 16, 1859. William Defreye president. C. A. Roberts secretary. On brown parchment. 16.5 x 12" 2) Central Mining District. November 21, 1859. Thomas Dunstan chairman and John H. R. Dunstan secretary. 13 x 8.5. According to West's Encyclopedia of American Law, the "Gregory Diggings Code of Colorado was the best example of a functioning system based on the laws of the Miner's Code. The Gregory Code successfully produced a harmonious political and judicial system that was imitated by other mining towns. Between 1861 and 1862, the legislature of the Colorado territory formally adopted the canons of the Gregory Code." Franklin Collection.
