Lot of 2. 1. Wood-Hagenbarth Cattle Co. Limited incorp. Idaho 1902. Stock deposit receipt #9, I.U, 480 shares @ $1.00 ea. to J. Barnett Nov 21, 1902 signed cashier. Black border, no vignette. F W Gardiner Co. printer. Tri-fold, some age discolor on back, no pin holes or tears. Started in 1902 by James D Wood who was a sheep rancher (largest in the U.S. at that time), miner, owner of Utah Canning Co. purchased the Paloma Land and Cattle Co of Mexico, covering 2.4 million acres ( twice the size of Rhode Island) was the largest cattle ranch in the world.2. Washita Cattle Co. incorp. Missouri 1883. #158 of 1000, I/U, First Mortgage, 6% due 1894. Issued nov 15, 1883 signed Erastus Wells pres. and D T Parker sect. Blue border/blk writing. Two vignettes: Top center cowboy rounding up cattle bottom center head of steer. Embossed corp. seal left side, two coupons attached. A. Gast & Co printer. Two pin holes left side, fold creases, no tears or stains. No writing other than signatures. Started in 1883 by agent John Miles who lease 3 million acres to seven ranchers. This area had was home to Cheyenne and Arapaho Indians which had settled for hunting. Dispute ensued between the ranchers and the tribes causing the Federal Gov't to terminate all leases and had the cattle removed in 1885. Washita county is Historically infamous for the raid by Custer in 1868 the Cheyenne village of Peace Chief Black Kettle ( known as leader of peace) which was meant to reduce indian raids and at the time was considered a success.
