1. The Columbus Gold Mining Company of the Black Hills, inc. New York; located at Central City, Lawrence County. Cert. no. 324 issued to R.W. Hamilton for 50 shares at $10 each on Aug 30, 1880 in New York. Signed by president Henry F. Herkner and secretary Jas. Richards. Not Cancelled. Signed by Hamilton on reverse. Black border and print by Henry Seibert & Bro. in New York. 2 mining vignettes, a hoisting scene left border and miners working underground, top center. The mine was a good gold producer and the company owned the Portland Mill(planned in1902), which processed about $12,000 per month, a 1000 ton per day. The company may have been purchased by Homestake. [Ref: Poole, Sanford] 2. Great Eastern Gold Mining Company, inc. in New York, located at Black Hills near Deadwood, Lawrence County. Cert. no. 6657 issued to Wm. M. Calahan for 100 shares on May 2, 1881 in New York. Signed by vice president E.A. Farmington and secretary Silas Hay. Not Cancelled. Black border and print by American Bank Note Company. Vignette of a hoisting scene in the center. According to Black Hills Daily Times (August 14th, 1880), the company owned the Flora Belle Lode. The vein was believed to be 200ft. wide. The company was driving a 300ft. tunnel to intersect the vein at the 150ft. level. In 1881, they were driving 3 drifts into Flora Belle and American No. 2 lodes.[scrip-12-12-07, P-175] 3. The Monitor Mining Company, inc. Dakota, located in Deadwood, South Dakota. Cert. no. 70 issued to Sparks & Allen for 1000 shares on Nov. 6, 1886 in Deadwood. Signed by president D. McPherson and secretary W. McLaughlin. Stamp cancelled in purple, Sparks & Allen signature on reverse. Black border and print by Lith. John Morris Company in Chicago. A vignette of 3 miners inspecting a piece of ore top center. The famous Deadwood sheriff Seth Bullock was on the board of directors. According to E&MJ Vol. 48, the company was paying a dividend and bought interest in the Gentle Annie lode.
