Description

North America by Anthony Trollope, in three volumes, Leipzig, Germany, 1862. Contains two volumes in one. Volume 1 contains 344 pages; volumes two has 3232 pp, volume 3 has 313pp. In this case the German author had always hoped to visit America and write a book about America and Americans, what is like to live there, travel there, and the politics. In this particular case he came to America just prior to the Civil War, landing in New York, and proceeding westward. As the Civil War began he had to trim his trip. Trollope never made the West Coast. This is a very interesting view of America written by a well-known German author. Rare, very good
