Description
NORMAN LEWIS (1917 - 1979)
Standing Figure.
Mixed media, including ink, charcoal, and graphite on paper, circa 1947-49. 558x457 mm; 22x18 inches. Signed in pencil, lower right.
Provenance: private collection, Illinois.
This early work on paper is an abstraction of a standing figure. Norman Lewis uses earth-toned inks, charcoal, and graphite in stacked graphic shapes to form an armature of a standing male. He is wearing a long coat, with his proper right hand held up in the air, forming a fist.
