Description
Perhaps the most iconic breech loading carbine of the Civil War, approximately 100,000 Sharps rifles and carbines of all types saw martial service. This classically configured New Model 1863 features a blued round barrel, German silver blade front sight, and ladder rear. The case hardened pellet primer lock bears standard maker and patent information. Plain 2-piece walnut stocks without patch box. Iron mounts include a single barrel band, saddle ring and bar, and plain butt plate. CONDITION: Very good. Barrel blue has largely faded to a chocolate patina. Receiver displays significant flashes of case color with an older added protective coating. Receiver lever pin likewise retains significant traces of nitre blue. Stocks are crisp with an age-darkened appearance and only minor impressions. Especially fine and bright bore with very strong, well defined rifling. Fine mechanics.
