Description
Manufactured in Belgium circa the 1890s, likely by Henri Pieper for New York dealer Schoverling, Daly & Gales. The massive 34" twist pattern "LAMINATE STEEL" barrels have a single bead front sight. "U.S.C.Co. 183" stamped at the breech indicating this example was formerly part of the United States Cartridge Company collection, which in 1903 was advertised as the "most complete collection in the United States". Although not listed among the historical curiosities in their 1903 collection catalog, this example was likely retained for ammunition testing. Built on a hammer fired underlever action with lightly engraved back action locks marked for "GEO FISHER". Heavy checkered walnut straight grip stock with German silver toeline vanity plate and steel butt plate. CONDITION: Very good. Barrel display the vast majority of their attractive brown twist pattern. Action has faded to a silvery gray patina. Stock has a few scattered nicks but is otherwise good with an age darkened appearance. Bores are bright with some mild cleaned oxidation spots. Fine mechanics. Barrel Length: 34" FFL Status: Antique Gauge: 8 Bore Manufacturer: George Fisher Model: SXS Serial Number: 7226
