Item Details
Description
Built using Colt Cavalry Single Action Army replacement parts for the United States Government during the end of the 19th century-turn of the 20th century timeframe. With very few exceptions, these Artillery revolvers are serialized on the barrel, frame, trigger guard, and, butt like all other Colt Single Action Armies; this revolver is 1 of 12 known examples of a Colt Artillery single action revolver without a serial number. Furthermore, it is 1 of only 2 with the U.S. acceptance stamp on the left side of the frame. These "Non-Numbered Artillery Revolvers" (Cavalry & Artillery Revolvers... A Continuing Study, pages 100-108) were made likely as a cleanup effort of all remaining arsenal replacement parts circa 1903. Features include 5 - 1/2" barrel marked "45 COLT" on left side, blade front sight, "V" notch rear sight, single line barrel address, kidney shaped ejector rod head, "U.S." marked frame, 2 line patent marking, and walnut grips. Visible inspector stamps include "L.D." on frame, "K" on trigger guard, "R.A.C." on rear of cylinder and bottom of left grip panel, and "H" in hammer channel. CONDITION: Very good, with most of the original blue finish turned an untouched brown-gray patina with visible bluing in protected areas such as ejector rod housing, cylinder flutes, and trigger guard. Grips are strong with no major signs of distress, however, are unable to be removed from backstrap for inspection. Mechanically excellent, with all 4 hammer stops. Bore is bright with sharp rifling. Barrel Length: 5 - 1/2" Caliber/Bore: .45 Colt FFL Status: Antique Manufacturer: Colt Model: SAA Paperwork: Previous Description Serial Number: NSN
