This portfolio was published in conjunction with the exhibition Black Triangle, mounted at the Prague Castle in 1994. Koudelka's panoramic images document the ecological destruction caused by coal mining in the Ore Mountain foothills, also known as the Black Triangle. In his introduction, Vaclav Havel boldly states that Koudelka's scathing images have 'taught us perhaps more than anything else that the world is made of an indefinitely intricate and mysterious tissue about which we know damn little and towards which we should behave humbly.'

This portfolio of 34 photographic prints is in generally excellent condition. Only visible in raking light on a few of the prints are scattered streaks, scuffs, and small deposits of indeterminate nature. The sheets are ever so slightly bowed at the left and right edges.
