Barn with Waterwheel

Maurice Harvey (1928-2019), an American painter and illustrator. He was born in California and studied at the Southend College of Art in Essex, England, and the London College of Art. He worked as an illustrator in advertising for over 15 years in the United Kingdom, Canada, and the United States.

Harvey's work is characterized by its use of bold colors and its romantic depiction of American and English landscapes and architectural scenes. He is best known for his paintings of barns, ranches, and rapidly disappearing rural buildings. He often searched out old buildings, ranches, and rapidly disappearing barns to paint. He said, “This is perhaps a final tribute when nobody seems to care and it's about to be scraped off and gone forever, but I've captured it on canvas and made it look beautiful even in it's final days.”

Harvey's work has been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions in the United States and Canada. His paintings are in the collections of the Monterey Museum of Art, the Santa Barbara Museum of Art, and the Palm Springs Desert Museum.

Harvey died in 2019 at the age of 91. His work continues to be admired by collectors and art lovers around the world.
